The Isle of Harris Mountain Festival was created in 2011 to highlight the opportunities to enjoy outdoor pursuits on the islands' incredible land and seascapes. The Isle Of Harris Mountain Festival is organised and managed by The North Harris Trust. North Harris is one of the largest community owned estates in Scotland, and the Trust is a registered charity that manages the estate on behalf of the local community. It is important to stress that the Isle of Harris Mountain Festival is, therefore, a community-led initiative rather than a commercial enterprise.
Every year the festival includes taster sessions in various sports. Encouraging people to have a go, safe in the knowledge that quality equipment and fully-qualified instruction will be provided. So far we have had sports such as surfing, mountain biking and sea kayaking.
A programme of walks, hosted by experienced guides is organised to accommodate and challenge all skill levels. For those aiming to build their confidence and abilities, there are Hill and Mountain Skill courses.
